Hello everyone! The busy social season has gotten off to a good start this spring.
The Mother’s Day Brunch was a little on the cool side but the food was great. Thanks to Bill Harrington & crew, Sizemores and Bob Hickock (pictured right), who whipped up batches of scrambled eggs & sausages. Thanks to all of you who attended and shared your favorite brunch recipes’ and to the workers who made it all possible.
The Memorial Day cookout is always a favorite event. We enjoyed all of the great food and our first warm weather holiday! Kudo’s to January’s & Hale’s, for hosting this event once again and to all the crew who pitched in to make this a great cookout!!!!!!
The Father’s Day Brunch is the next upcoming social event for this year and is scheduled for June 18th at 11:30am. Grab your dad, bring the family, and come attend this next event!!!! Everyone is welcome and please remember that the Club provides the main course and we ask everyone to please bring a dish to share.
I want to thank all of our volunteers who help put on these functions. They do a VERY good job in getting these events up and running. Without these folks, we would not have the great social program that the Club provides for all of us.
Hats off to all our volunteers!
Remember – if you want to be on the volunteer list for an event, please call me at 566-0353.
Have fun in the sun!!!!

Thanks to Bob and all of the Club members who have made the grounds look as good as they do today...great work!
Parking
All boats are supposed to be in their assigned parking spaces by June 1st. If you can’t meet that deadline, call me.
If your boat isn’t where you left it the last time you were here, I probably moved it trying to get a head start on the last minute boat shuffle. Please make every effort possible to abide by this Club rule. The board did agree to the possibility of accessing a fine for your boat not being in its assigned space and I don’t want to start any enforcement. An updated parking space list is posted on the back of the school loft as well as on the Harbor Master bulletin board on the east wall of the main shelter.
Above: Bill in his Kayak
If you haven't launched yet, don't be surprised if you find that I've put someone into your slip. Don't get mad at them or call them. Get over it, then call me (or Chauncey) to get them moved.
If your boat is for sale make sure there is a sign visible and park it at the bottom of the entrance drive on the left with all the other for sale boats already there.
Your boat is considered abandoned if you're not a current Family or Regular member and it is on the grounds. It may be towed away by a law enforcement agency.
Borrowed Key
Bob Bodish has asked me to tell everybody that if you borrow a gate key from him (say you left yours home), it will cost you a $10.00 deposit. Once you return the key, your money will be refunded. Evidently Bob has had trouble with members not returning his own gate key.
48 Hour Dock
The 48 hour dock is for parking a maximum of 48 hours in a 7 day period. Nuf said.

Guests
Please remember that Non-Members are not allowed on the grounds unless accompanied by a Member...this especially includes usage of your boat. A son of a cousin, a niece, nephew, boyfriend, or girlfriend does not count as a Member.
Membership Stickers
ALL boats and ALL trailers must have a current year membership sticker applied. The boat sticker goes on the port (left) bow and the trailer sticker goes as far forward on the left side of the trailer tongue as possible. Membership can replace lost or damaged stickers if needed. There are a lot of older members who know this rule well, but seem to think that an old sticker is just fine. Maybe some good natured ribbing from you will encourage them to get up-to-date.
Docking
The front of your boat should not extend over the edge of the dock. The docks are narrow enough as it is for safe walking. A properly adjusted “spring line” is all you need and will save your bow from wind damage. If you’re not sure how to set one, don’t be shy...just ask anyone you see. It’s hard to find a sailor that can’t wait to offer advice.
Thanks to Jeff Dorsa for suggesting and helping get the mostly submerged logs out of the bay and dock area so the small boats and juniors won’t keep running into them.
And thanks also to Mike Kaschak and Rick Sprowl for helping refurbish the loft.

More On Dry Parking
Over this last week, several boats on trailers have been moved and their dry parking space changed by the Harbormaster Committee. Most of these are in rows C, D, & H. If your boat is in a different spot than you left it, it’s probably in your new assigned space, now. Each boat that was changed has a small white tag tied to the front of the trailer with your name, membership number, and the new assigned parking spot.
Again, a revised parking list, dated 5/26/06, is posted on the back of the school sail loft and on the main shelter bulletin board. We are also trying to add a posting area on the regular sail loft. This new list supersedes any previous list including what is printed in the annual directory.
If there is any question or problem, please contact me….

The first big regatta of the year, The Mayor’s Cup, was held on May 20th and 21st. We had a difficult time getting two races off on Saturday due to little wind, but Sunday was a much different story as we had great weather, great wind, and were able to get three good races in. Derek Mess, from Cambridge MA, won the Finn Fleet and became the 2006 Mayors Cup winner. Jamey Casey from Sabina, Ohio won the highlander fleet. “The Real” Tom Moore ended up winning the Red fleet and RJ Graef won in the Lazer fleet. For detailed results see www.ecsail.org/results.htm
A special thanks to all the ECSC sailors and out-of-towners who showed up for the first regatta of the year. Thanks for making it a success!

HOW I CAME TO BE A "CREEKER"
I came by sailing rather "late" in life at about age 30. Being a city girl, the opportunities to spend time anywhere near a lake were few and far between...as were any lakes for that matter! But somehow along the way, I learned to swim and ski, and spent high school summer weekends at Lake Lemon with my girlfriend, Terri. We never noticed any sailboats while I drove her around the lake as she barefoot skiied...only local "hotties." Thus began my introduction to the world of boating in general.
Some years later, I was invited to "go sailing" with a friend who kept his new boat at the public side of Eagle Creek. He was a new sailor with a Catalina 22 named AQUAHOLIC. It was a nice day and we pretty much just floated about. When we pulled the boat out of the water, we had to hose it off and pack it away. Too much work!!
It was about that same time that another friend, Mike Rian, introduced me to E-Scow racing and, GEEZ-OH-PETE!!! I never knew boats could fly! Suddenly, all of the work was fun! The scow season ended on Labor Day weekend, but I would continue to sail late into the fall on a Highlander with some friends of ours at Geist Reservoir.
My job as a bartender allows me to meet some pretty interesting characters. One spring afternoon, a rugged but friendly fellow came in for lunch. The conversation turned to sailing. After hearing that I liked to sail Highlanders and Scows, I was informed that I was going to start racing at Eagle Creek the next night. That fellow was Bruce Cameron... So long, Geist!
I bought AQUAHOLIC when I decided to join the Club. Only problem? I didn't know anything about sailboats except how to fly the chute! I have, however, received a LOT of assistance and encouragement from my fellow Club members...especially my best friend and mentor, Tim Hollingsworth.
While participating in various regattas at Eagle Creek and beyond, I've had the opportunity to meet many interesting people. Desperate for crew at one such regatta, we took a walk-on who was coincidentally, from Eagle Creek's Hobie Beach. His name was Bob Hickok, and the rest is history! We were married a year later with Hollingsworth presiding as judge pro tem.
Bob introduced his two sons, Luke and Ki, to ECSC and "Wayne's World." Wayne Myers immediately took Ki to task; first as a student in sailing school, then as a junior sailor at Put-in-Bay's Junior Bay Week...then as a certified US Sailing Instructor.
In a nutshell, sailing has provided me and my family with some of the most rewarding experiences and enduring friendships of a lifetime!

| Painting in Zionsville |
Katie Williams |
|
While cruising through Zionsville last Friday on the monthly Art Gallery Walk, I ran across this painting below. Apparently, the artist, Elaine Wolfe, stopped by our Club last year and took some pictures...then later stroked out this painting!
I can't tell whose boats these are and this picture isn't the best quality due to reflections (it was a nice sunny afternoon).
But, this could make a nice conversation piece on someone's wall.
As in normal pirate fashion, First Come....First Serve!!
