    Commodore January 2020

Welcome to 2020 and what should be a great year for our club! First of all, let me express my gratitude to the board for allowing me to serve at the Commodore. After being invited to the club by Janet Hickok in the early 2000’s, I became enamored of sailing and crewed for a number of years with Mike Gray on Absolute. After a brief absence between 2008 and 2010, I decided to return and join the club, first sailing again on Absolute before buying Dutch Mob, and this past summer sailing on Reckoning. As you can see, I have been a J-24 sailor thus far, but there has been some discussion among some members about trying to build up a Flying Scot fleet, so who knows what this year will bring. As has been said many times, our club is the best kept secret in Indianapolis. Besides the beautiful mostly undeveloped shoreline, the lack of high-speed watercraft, and the sometimes 360° clocking winds, it is you, the members, that make it the special experience that we all enjoy.

I would like to welcome the returning and new board members who have agreed serve alongside me this year as committee heads. I am especially excited to welcome two new members of the board who are alumni of our Juniors Sailing program, Cody McCoun and EJ Williams. Please check out the 2020 directory for a complete listing of the board.

Officers and committee heads for 2020 are:

    Vice Commodore – Chuck Goff
    Treasurer – Tom Moore
    Secretary – Rich Fox
    Past Commodore – Geoff Endris
    Social – Vickie Greenough
    Membership – Jane Schmidt
    Harbor Master – Kenny Chapman
    Publicity – EJ Williams
    Racing – Marcus Rogers
Education & Safety – Wayne Meyers

The first board meeting of the year will be on January 11 th , where the board will approve the 2020 budget and we will discuss upcoming capital projects. In addition to completing the new boat ramp, we hope to replace the gin pole and purchase a new tractor for the grounds. I will keep you up to date on these projects as we move forward.

Again, thank you for the opportunity to be of service to you.

    Nan Schulze, Commodore

Happy New Year to everyone at the club from myself and Ki Hickok. We will be serving the entire membership this year with a few important changes. Ki has developed a great system for dry sailor parking. The form to get that is on its way and will be in the membership renewal package. Another thing, access to trailer parking along the beach will begin around the middle of September. Also transient parking along the Seawall will be made available to sailors that plan on putting their boats in storage. Also, we’re looking into a cable system along the beach for beach boats to tie up their boats. More to come as details get worked into place.

    Racing January 2020

    Happy New Year!!!

I am already counting the days until our first Wednesday night racing on April 22!!! The 2020 Racing Season will be a great one and we will strive to make it even better than 2019. Please let me know if you need anything this season and I will work to make it happen. I have two goals for this new year: to keep racing fun and to get more boats on the starting line…….

To begin our season, we will start with a Racing Meeting on January 18 th . The meeting will be held at 9247 N. Meridian St. 2 nd Floor. The agenda for the meeting is to talk about the upcoming season, the addition of another racing fleet, how we get more boats on the line, and to answer any questions you may have.

As I have it today, the Racing Schedule is as follows:

April 22- First night of Wednesday night racing
April 26- Sunday afternoon Racing begins
    Mayor’s Cup – May 16/17
    J 24 District 12 Championships – May 30/31
    Flying Scott – June 13/14
    ECSC Regatta – July 11
    Indy 200 – Sept. 12
    Governor’s Cup – Sept 19/20
    ECSC Championship – Oct. 4
    Hornback – Oct. 10
    Purdue/IU Regatta – Oct. 17/18
The opening dates might be subject to change because of the addition of a new ramp. If all goes as planned, we should have not
    issues….

Look forward to working with all of you and please let me know how I can help you reach your goals for 2020!!!
