What a great month we just had! The ECSC Regatta and Beach Party were a huge hit! We had a very large gathering for dinner and the band. The food was delicious with a special thanks to the volunteers!
The kids/family fun day had an awesome turn out with the new Pirate Ship playground and petting zoo! Thank you to Jen Curtis and Tammy Ray!
We can’t forget to mention that 46th Street is finally re-paved and looking nice and smooth. I’m excited to see what’s ahead for the second half of the summer! Have fun and be safe!
Since our last writing, we have had the ECSC Regatta. Despite several of our sailors being out for the Mackinaw races on Lake Huron and Michigan, we were able to field 11 boats in four fleets for the regatta. Even though the number of boats was not large, there was a lot of good competition and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. There were three boats from the Purdue University sailing team participating…adding a very positive element to the event. Les Miller’s team won White Fleet, Steve Earnhart won Blue Fleet, Ms. Chan from Purdue won Green Fleet, and Jan and Nan Wishard’s boat won the Red Fleet. Our congratulations to them.
We are started into the Summer Series racing season and have had very good participation, competition, and winds. When I say good winds, I mean stronger than usual – not necessarily steadier!!
Our next racing events are the Ladies Regatta on August 6th and the Indy 200 on September the 10th. Please join our Wednesday and Sunday Series racing schedule whenever you are able.
The Dedicated Race Committee project is still in progress and doing well. We are finding that we are acquiring non-racer volunteers that are enjoying the racing experience as well as providing race committee help on many races instead of just one. We still have more room for more non-racing volunteers. If you are interested volunteering for work credits, please contact Nancy Goff or me. If you are a racer, be sure to go to the SignUp Genius on the ESCS Racing page and be sure to sign up for race committee to get your racing credits.
It is the midpoint of the year and time for an update on the state of membership. As of this writing we have had 10 new memberships this year, which is exactly the same amount of new memberships we had this time last year. We currently have 270 memberships, including the aforementioned new memberships and 3 return. I would like to welcome the following new members this year:
Tommy and Michelle Grant who are legacy siblings and children of long time members Bill and Kim Grant.
Eamonn and Patricia Warren sailing an Ultimate 20
Nathan and Rachel Hill who sail a San Juan 21 and a Greenwich 24
Jeff and Kathleen Canfield sailing a Melges 15
Ross and Mary Hedges sailing a San Juan 24
Hank and Cindy Richardson sailing an S2 8.0
Michaela Bell and Ian Croghan sailing a Flying Scot
Jonathan Coffin and Sean Harrington sailing a Catalina 22
Todd Bracken who currently has no boat at the club but runs a NauticEd associated sailing school over at Geist. If anyone is looking to get certifications he would be a good resource. http://www.dauntlesssailing.com/
Everyone, enjoy the rest of the season!

Looking for someone to take over the Publicity Chair position starting next year! Responsibilities include putting together the Telltales once a month (during the sailing season), sending out emails to the membership, posting pictures on our Instagram account, and keeping the website updated. I plan on teaching this new Publicity Chair everything they need to know. I’ll also volunteer to be the assistant chair to help with the work. As with all Chair positions, this person will have their Membership Dues waived.
Please send an email to email@example.com if you’re interested or would like to recommend someone.
Technically the Publicity Chair has control of making all the ECSC merchandise & apparel, too. But I plan to keep doing that since it’s fun. So it’s up to whoever comes on board if they want to run the Ship Store, too.
I am in the process of making a lot more softshell jackets (mens and womens style) as well as rash-guards and long-sleeve t-shirts.
My Ship Store inventory now includes (see images below):
Sizes & colors are limited to what’s in stock. First come, first served!
Long sleeve cotton shirts (all gray):
White rash guards:
Towels & Coozies:
Soft shell jackets:
