The 2025 season is officially underway!

I want to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers and Purdue sailors who dedicated their time last Saturday to help with our spring cleaning.   We accomplished a great deal, including assembling the new rib lift—quite the jigsaw puzzle!   As many of you know, our volunteers are essential to a successful season.   Please reach out to the committee chairs to express your interest in helping out.

Special thanks to Erich Rose and Bill Harrington for overseeing the installation of the new B Dock.   The added width near the ramp will significantly improve safety during launching and boat retrieval, allowing for easier passage.   Its closer proximity to the ramp should also help prevent accidental drive-offs.

Here’s a quick update from our committees:

  • Membership is putting the final touches on the Membership Handbook.

  • The Harbor Master is finalizing slip assignments.

  • The Racing Committee has set the racing schedule and is completing waivers for committee boat operators and Principal Race Officers (PROs).

  • Social has planned a calendar of events for the season and will be seeking volunteers to help create fun and foster community.

  • Safety and Education is now accepting reservations for the new adult-sailing classes...which were developed following the success of last season's ladies' course.

  • Our Junior Sailing Program is also taking reservations for summer camp and anticipates another successful year of youth sailing.

  • Last but not least, the Grounds Committee has recently added a Garden and Landscaping sub-committee, offering a fantastic volunteering opportunity for those with a green thumb.

We've already achieved so much in the first few months, and I'm looking forward to a fulfilling season filled with sun, wind, and water.

    Cheers to Launch Day

I'll be working on the slip assignments now that Membership has heard from everyone.   As a reminder, any request to relocate will be handled in order of your member number.   Then, "Waitlist" will also be handled in order of membership number.

We do have some deep-keel boats that need deeper waters.   So, if you have a swing keel or shoal draft and don't mind trading slip locations, let me know (It's a pretty view from D dock).

And if all works out, I'll try to assign dry slips this season, but that will need all the wet-slips boats to clear out.

    Good luck with your launch.

    Hello Fellow Sailors!

We are a little over a month out from our Mother’s Day Brunch, which always kicks off our social season at the Club.   This is a great event to celebrate and honor the women who have had a positive impact in our lives.   So, let us hope for warm weather and clear skies to come sailing in!

If you would like to reserve the upper shelter, lower shelter, or Captain’s Corner for events this season, please complete the form at http://ecsail.org/reserve.   Depending on the size of your group, there are deposits and fees associated with the reservation of the facilities.   Due to parking limitations, we can only allow reservations for groups of up to 100 people.   If you have any questions, please let us know.

Just a friendly reminder, our furry friends are not allowed to be in an area where food is being served, as per our General Rules.

Here are our fun and exciting social events at the Club this season:

    Mother’s Day Brunch – May 11th
Memorial Day Weekend Cookout – May 26th
    Father’s Day Brunch – June 15th
Family Fun Day Cookout – July 5th
    ECSC Beach Party/Pig Roast – July 19th **
Labor Day Weekend Cookout – September 1st
    Lobsterfest – September 27th **
Hornback Chili Cookoff – October 4th
    Final Bash – November 1st **

        ** Requires RSVP and pre-payment

All events, apart from the Lobsterfest and Final Bash (which are catered), are pitch-in style events.   The Club will provide the main dishes and drinks, along with tableware.   It is always a delight to see the various sides and desserts everyone brings to share...and to swap recipes for new and old favorites!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone out at the Club soon!

    Hello ECSC Members!

We’re excited to share some great updates regarding our membership status!

As of today, ECSC has 266 active members, and from 2024 to 2025, we only have 16 members who chose not renew their memberships...a decrease from prior years!   In fact, the last time we saw fewer members not renewing was in 2018.   Before that, all the way back in 2010!   This shows that our community continues to remain stable and strong.

We’re also thrilled to welcome 3 new members to our Club so far this year:   One is a legacy member, and two others on separate memberships — a father and son duo have joined, excited to race their J/22 (Code 787-No word) if the name will remain or change.   These members is eager to hit the water and we’re all looking forward to seeing them race. WATCH OUT!

As a reminder, our current waitlist and slip availability are updated regularly on our website at www.ecsail.org > Membership.   So, be sure to check there for the most up-to-date information.   If you're on the waitlist, it will be important to please keep an eye on your messages from membership@ecsail.org and any possible follow up texts from membership.   For reference, my texts will come from a 262 area code, so please don't miss them, and respond quickly so I may get you into the water!

Membership packets, including your renewal stickers, should be arriving by the third week of the month.   If you have not received yours by April 28th, please reach out to membership@ecsail.org.   It is crucial that your stickers are applied to PORT side of any watercraft ASAP (Boats, Trailers, & Kayaks), especially before the June 1st audit.   Failure to do so could result in additional fees when you renew in 2026.   Avoid fees and frustration, affix your sticker!

Finally, a huge shout-out to Erich Rose for his tireless dedication to helping our Club continue to grow and improve.   He has big shoes to fill from the years of commitment from our friend Bill Harrington (Member #1).   I am confident that Erich's hard work and commitment will ensure that ECSC remains the place to be...not just for 2025, but well into the future!

Fair winds my friends, see you on the water...and maybe at the finish line!

Woke up sore after working at the ECSC Work party on March 29th.   What a great time it was with a group of my best friends and fellow sailors.   Thanks to all the racers and Purdue race fellows who turned up to make a lot of significant and necessary improvements and do required maintenance on our beloved Club.   It's another rite of spring at ECSC that has renewed our spirits over our 50+ years of history.   What a great feeling it is to work alongside our finest and feel great about something we all did together.

As far as the racing program was concerned, we finished putting together the new Safety Boat launch platform brought to us by Dock Blocks.   It is a marvelous piece of modular engineering that will serve our Club well for decades.   Be sure and take a look at it next to the on-ramp to A dock next time you are at the Club.   It looks pretty now sitting next to the two beautiful new docks!!

We were able to get all the buoys deployed on the reservoir for the start of racing on April 16th...and put some new shelves in the closet of the racing shed to help storage issues there.   The Aircraft Carrier pontoon is in the water and running while the RC pontoon motor saved us a surprise impeller repair job to remind us of how much it enjoys our attention.   It should be in the water soon.

Hope to see you on the water soon.
