It's the best time of the year for sailing! I hope everyone has been able to enjoy our Club and the beautiful lake we sail on. First, I'd like to announce that the 2024 Alex Rust Regatta (ARR!!!) hosted by the Chasing Bubbles Foundation will be held on August 10th and 11th. We hosted this "regatta" last year and it was one of our most fun days at the Club. See the pictures below. If you haven't watched the Chasing Bubbles Documentary (click here), I'd highly recommend it. It's about a boy from Seymour, IN, who quit his job and sailed around the world for 3 years. It's very inspirational and may spur you to go on your own adventure.
I'll send more info about ARR 2024 soon. Mark your calendars for August 10 and 11! A few other updates: a big thank you to Les Miller and Geoff Endris for sitting down and reviewing the new agreement that we're negotiating with Purdue. It'll be a good package that ECSC can rely on for many years to come. I'm also happy to see that Purdue has some sailors using our Club this Summer. And I'm very happy to say a graduated Purdue sailor has requested to become a full ECSC member. So, our relationship with Purdue is truly a great "pipeline" for new members. That's all for now. See you guys on the water!

Our goals for the Club include getting sailors sailing and keeping the Club facilities in top shape. That is why we want all the slips to be used as much as possible. The General Rules allow for the harbormaster to sublease unused slips. That date is June 1st. But, with D-Dock challenges, I have put this off until July 1st. So, if you're not in your slip by now, you'll need to wait for next year. Some of you have asked for extra time and that is noted. Also, I will be auditing for abandoned and derelict boats. So, check your tire, empty the water out of the cockpit, clean up last fall's leaves. And better yet, take it out onto the water and have fun. If you need assistance with anything, please reach out for advice or a hand. Good luck....

Hello Fellow Sailors! Thank you to everyone who attended our Father’s Day Brunch! A huge shoutout to Karen & Kenneth Orndorff and crew for another outstanding event. Our volunteers do an amazing job! If meeting new people, helping out around the Club, earning work credits, and having fun sound like something you’d like to do, please let us know as there are still plenty of events left this season. Volunteers help make our sailing club the amazing place it is! Looking for a great excuse to bring the kids and grandkids down to the Club? Saturday, July 6th, is our Family Fun Day at 11am! Please join us for lots of fun and games at the upper shelter house. We have a luau theme this year with leis, a pineapple pinata, limbo, and many other great activities. We’ll have hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks. Please bring your kiddo’s favorite side dish or dessert to share. If you want to come help set up, or grill for us, please let us know! The following weekend is our annual Beach Party, on July 13th. City Barbecue is catering at the upper shelter house with the food line starting at 6pm. Then everyone can saunter down to the beach for the return of Retro Betty at 7pm. This night is always one to remember each year! Since this is a catered event, dinner is $25 for members, $30 for non-members. Payments can be made using the Venmo QR code below or email vgreenough21@gmail.com. There will be a drawing, so be sure to bring cash and your beach chair...unless, of course, you plan on dancing the night away in the sand.
You may find all social and private events on the ECSC calendar located on the website. Below is a quick snapshot of the season’s remaining events. Those in bold font require RSVP and Pre-payment. More details to come closer to the events. If you have hosted events in the past and wish to host again, we’d love that! If you are interested in hosting or crewing for a certain event(s), please let us know and we’ll get your spot reserved. We try to make these events as fun and easy as possible. It’s a great way to earn work credits to apply towards next year’s membership and meet people within our great Club. If you have any questions, please always feel free to reach out!

Racers, The Mayor’s Cup is in the history book. It turned into a one-day regatta with a very good day of racing wind on Saturday followed by a no-wind day on Sunday. Despite this, the PRO team of John Anderson and Steve Koehn were able to get in five good races for the regatta. Congratulations to Eamonn Warren and his crew for taking home the Mayor’s Cup with their good racing skills on display. Thanks to all our volunteers for putting on a successful event. Our next regatta will be on July 13th with the ECSC Regatta - followed that evening by the ECSC Beach Party. Hope that you can join us for a day on the water before one of the best sailing-club celebrations of the year. The next regatta following the ESCS Regatta will be the Ladies Regatta on Saturday Aug 3rd. Planning is underway for this event and hope you might think ahead in your planning to be able to attend this popular race. All the planned repairs and capital improvements for the racing program have now been completed - save one. Here’s hoping for a respite from any new maintenance issues. |

Junior Sailing Update The 2024 Junior Sailing Camp has closed out the 2024 camping season. A fun time was had by all! One camper was overheard saying, “This is the most fun camp of the summer. It is even more fun than zoo camp.” We sailed with some of our old friends and some new ones too. The camp staff was led by Olivia DeGrella again this year. They all did a wonderful job of making camp super fun and safe too. Thank you to Dunkin York, Mary Cudworth, Kate Weigand, Julia Tennet, Drew Whelan, Sofi Imler, and Nic Bullard for all your hard work. Junior Sailing would also like to thank a few members of the ECSC community who have stepped up to give us extra support this year: Evan Williams, John Kohne, Abby Harlin, Perry Cameron, and EJ Williams. Finally, thank you to the entire ECSC sailing community who were looking out for the kids while they were attending camp. We hope to have more news about Junior Racing in the next issue. |

Catch all the US Sailing Olympic Action this July! Sailing was made an official Olympic sport over 100 years ago in the 1900 Paris games. The events and boats have varied over the years...as bigger boats took the spotlight in the earlier years. Now however, smaller one-design boats with fewer crew members are taking the stage. The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will feature 10 sailing events across different classes including men's, women's, and mixed-gender events. New events this year include the Mixed Two-Person Dinghy, Formula Kite, and iQFoil. For more info on our US sailing athletes, sailing events, and schedule, check out the link below:
Session I of ECSC Women's Laser Clinic - a Great Success! New member, Lindsay Maliqi, who is also new to sailing, had this to say about clinic: “I’ve had a lot of fun at ladies' night every Monday on Eagle Ocean! It’s a super group of women. Cody, Olivia, and Abby fostered a supportive environment for learning the fundamentals. I was nervous at first, but conquering the capsize drill and getting more familiar with tacking gave me the confidence boost I needed to get out there and sail!” We are gearing up for Session II to start on July 8th, when a whole new class of women will begin their journey in learning to sail. Please enjoy a few photos from class! |

Just a note about our Club Lost & Found. There's a box next to the Race Shed that contains items leftover from whatever. Every few weeks, this box gets dumped into the trash. Please, don't let some of these items go to waste. If you see something that you can use (that might have been languishing in that box for awhile), give it a second life!! Also, don't miss our annual Beach Party...it's one of our best summer events for racers and cruisers alike! Did you know quite a few members are utilizing our Liar's Tables for weekday lunches?? It's a great getaway from your daily humdrum. |
