Ahoy, Fellow Sailors!

This season is flying by! While we always rely on good weather for a successful and active sailing season, it's been great to see that the summer heat hasn’t slowed down our racers — participation in recent races has been strong and spirited.

A huge thank you goes out to Ken Ruppel for the generous donation of a J24...which will now be part of our Adult Sailing courses.   This addition will greatly enhance our ability to expand and improve our training offerings.

We’d also like to recognize Marcus Rogers for donating his time and critical supplies...including lines for rigging, an outboard engine, and other essentials — all of which ensure the boat is safe and ready for use.

Club Stats
Memberships 287
Members Waiting a Slip 2
Wet Slips 174 plus 2 temp
Water Level 790.64 (790 Normal)
Lake Acreage 1,360 Total (850 south end)
Of course, none of this would be possible without the hard work and dedication of Rick Graef and Abigail Harlan, who put in countless hours of sweat equity to get the boat water-ready.   Your efforts are truly appreciated!

Looking ahead, some of our favorite events are just around the corner:   Beach Party, Lobster Fest, and the ever-popular Chili Cookoff.   Mark your calendars — you won’t want to miss them!

A Few Key Notes from Your Commodore:

No Fishing Off the Docks:   Please remember that fishing is not allowed from the docks.   If you see someone doing so, kindly remind them of this guideline.   This helps us avoid any damage to our boats and rigging from stray lines or hooks.

Be Aware of Non-Members:   We’ve recently had a few instances of non-members using the Club facilities.   If you see someone unfamiliar, please introduce yourself.   If they are not members, gently remind them that we are a private club and access is limited to members and their guests.

Thank you for helping maintain the integrity and safety of our community.   Your vigilance and courtesy are what make this Club such a special place.

See you on the water!

Hello Fellow Sailors!

Our Father’s Day Brunch had an incredible turnout and this year we were able to get a picture of our club dads, grandpas, and father figures!   Our volunteers work hard to make these events happen and we appreciate all they do!

July brings both our Family Fun Day and Beach Party events.   Family Fun Day is Saturday, July 5th at 11am at the upper shelter house.   This year we will be pulling out the yard games…Tetris Tumble, Giant Connect 4, Backyard Jenga, Cornhole, and more.   So have your strategies and sense of fun ready as these games are adult and kid approved.   We will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks.   Bring the kids, grandkids, and family along with their favorite side dishes to share!

2024 Alex Rust Regatta

The Beach Party has an electronic RSVP and payment system this year!   Please visit the link at https://www.ecsail.org/rsvp/beach_party_2025

Through this link, you can RSVP the number of members or guests attending and make payment using our Club Zelle account.   We will need to have our RSVP count by July 14th.   The Beach Party is Saturday, July 19th with a catered dinner being served at the upper shelter at 6pm and the band, Retro Betty, will start on the beach at 7pm.   The price is $30 per member and $35 for non-members/guests.   Drinks will be provided along with the catered dinner of pulled pork and chicken, sides, and bread.   We encourage everyone to bring their lawn chairs down to the beach to be able to relax when you aren’t up dancing to the music.

Here are our fun and exciting social events at the Club this season:

Family Fun Day Cookout – July 5th - 11am
ECSC Beach Party/Pig Roast – July 19th - 6pm **
Labor Day Cookout – September 1st - 4pm
Lobsterfest – September 27th - 6pm **
Hornback Chili Cookoff – October 4th - 6pm
Final Bash at Colts Complex – November 1st - 6pm **

    ** Requires RSVP and pre-payment

All events, apart from the Beach Party and Final Bash (which are catered), are pitch-in style events.   The Club will provide the main dishes and drinks, along with tableware.   It is always a delight to see the various sides and desserts everyone brings to share...and to swap recipes for new and old favorites!

If you are interested in reserving any of the shelters located on the Club grounds for an event, you can find the reservation request form on our website at http://ecsail.org/reserve.   Please complete and submit for Commodore and Social approval.   Depending on the number of guests, deposits and fees may apply.   It is limited to 100 guests due to parking limitations.   You may find all social and private events on the ECSC calendar located on the website.

If you are interested in crewing for certain event(s), please let us know and we’ll get your spot reserved.   We try to make these events as fun and easy as possible.   It’s a great way to earn work credits to apply towards next year’s membership and meet people within our great Club!

If you have any questions, please always feel free to reach out to us at social@ecsail.org!

Racers,

Our racing program continues to be challenged by the unusually-adverse weather conditions that seem to be presenting themselves on racing days.   Of the 11 Wednesday Night races, 6 have been cancelled and of the 9 Sunday Afternoon races, 3 have been cancelled for weather-related issues.   There are only a few races left in the Sunday and Wednesday Spring Series, so we hope the upcoming start of the Summer Series will allow us to begin anew with less-affected series.

The next regatta on our racing calendar is the ESCS Regatta on Saturday, July the 19th.   It is to be followed that evening by the Beach Party and we hope you will join us at the Club for a day and night of enjoyment.   Information regarding this regatta will be circulated 7 to 10 days before the regatta.

Learn to Sail event

If you have been sailing on the reservoir recently, you may have noticed that the shoal buoy is back in place.   Several volunteers and we are working on a permanent solution to the problem of fisherman tying up to the buoy or the winter ice grabbing it thus displacing it or causing it to disappear.   We have made a significant advance in putting together a more permanent long-term solution that we will update you on when it is complete.   This will allow seasonal removal and replacement of this buoy that prevents displacement during racing season and ice damage or displacement in the winter.   More information to follow when completed.

Our waitlist is very small or nonexistent, yay!

But, we have a lot of empty slips, booo.

If you need help getting onto the water, try asking for help...we have very helpful members and we want everyone on the water, yay!

Get your stickers on before I make out the naughty list.   Luckily, I've been out of town...but July means:   Get It Done.

I'll be arranging dry slips (and the boats in them) throughout the season.   So, your boat might be moved to a more efficient spot.

Get out there and have fun!

ECSC'ers,

This will be the third year that we host this "regatta" for the Chasing Bubbles Foundation.   It's a fun day at the Club focused more on water activities rather than sailing/racing (which we do a lot of).

I'll be camping out Friday night (August 8th) and I expect some regatta guests will camp too.   Last year we had sailors fly in from all over the country and some from outside the US.   If you don't know, the Chasing Bubbles Documentary (watch here) is very popular among the live-aboard/cruising community.   It's a great piece about a kid from Seymour, IN, who knew nothing about sailing, quit his job, then sailed around the world for 3 years!

Last year's Build-Your-Own

Included fun is a “Build-Your-Own-Boat" Competition. Put your nautical engineering to the test!   See if you can make a boat that not only floats, but can cruise around the ECSC cove with speed and style!

So, mark your calendars for August 9th!

Calling all Ladies!

Please mark your calendars for the 2025 Ladies Sail.   This year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 2nd.

We gather at the Race Shed at 10:30am for donuts and drinks...followed by our annual photo.   We head out to “race” at high noon.   You do not need to know how to race to participate.   You may captain your own boat or join someone else as crew.   Swag, lunch, music, and hanging out with your fellow sailors...it is a fun day!

Look for the registration E-Mail soon.

Editor's Note:   Male volunteers to help with the activities are much appreciated as usual.
