The weather is finally warming up, and the Club is buzzing with activity! Racing is well underway, with competitive fleets and spirited camaraderie out on the water. Our social events are going off without a hitch, bringing members together to share food, stories, and plenty of laughs. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic season — and we’re just getting started.
A Huge Thank You to Erich Rose
A special shout-out goes to Dennis Robertson for organizing a stellar team to replace the Junior Sailing dock. The new structure is already proving to be a tremendous upgrade...offering a safer, more functional space for our youth sailors. Dennis’s leadership and the team’s hard work have given our juniors a strong start to their season—and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Looking Ahead Here’s to fair winds, smooth sailing, and a season full of good times. See you on the water!

Hello Fellow Sailors! Thank you to everyone who attended our Mother’s Day Brunch and Memorial Day cookout! We had amazing volunteer crews for each event. We’re testing out a few different things this year. For Mother’s Day, we had a new beverage option, which was a terrific hit. A huge shoutout and thanks to Jesse Wriedt for making it happen.
Mothers at our Mother's Day Brunch This year we moved the Memorial Day cookout back to Monday and had a fantastic turnout! It’s wonderful seeing everyone socializing at the Club and welcoming new members...as well as visiting with old friends. Don’t forget to checkout our posts on the Eagle Creek Sailing Club Facebook page, too. With June comes great wind, warmer weather, and our Father’s Day Brunch. We are assembling our crew and need a couple more people. If you’d love to earn some work credits and have a great time, please reach out and let us know! Father’s Day, Sunday, June 15th at 11am. We will have our traditional scrambled eggs, sausage, as well as some fun and delicious drinks. On July 5th we will have our Family Fun Day Cookout starting at 11am. Bring the kids and grandkids and join us for some hamburgers, hot dogs, and good clean fun! Here are our fun and exciting social events at the Club this season:
Father’s Day Brunch – June 15th ** Requires RSVP and pre-payment All events, apart from the Beach Party and Final Bash (which are catered), are pitch-in style events. The Club will provide the main dishes and drinks, along with tableware. It is always a delight to see the various sides and desserts everyone brings to share...and to swap recipes for new and old favorites! If you are interested in reserving any of the shelters located on the Club grounds for an event, you can find the reservation request form on our website at http://ecsail.org/reserve. Please complete and submit for Commodore and Social approval. Depending on the number of guests, deposits and fees may apply. It is limited to 100 guests due to parking limitations. You may find all social and private events on the ECSC calendar located on the website. If you are interested in crewing for certain event(s), please let us know and we’ll get your spot reserved. We try to make these events as fun and easy as possible. It’s a great way to earn work credits to apply towards next year’s membership and meet people within our great Club! Also, a shoutout to our Technology Chair, Michael Denney, for helping get our new email address setup. We can now be reached at social@ecsail.org. If you have any questions, please always feel free to reach out!

Membership |
In the last couple of years, I have seen big booms in May for new members! That said, I have added several new members and Race Fellows in the past few weeks! Often you will see tours with new members happening on Wednesday evenings as I find that is a great time to introduce potential members to the greatest number of existing members. Thank you to all of you who come up and introduce yourselves...you are all part of what makes ECSC GREAT!
Youth Sailors We currently have a waitlist of only 4! Note: If you don’t have your stickers on your boats and trailers, our Harbor Master does an audit after June 1st. To avoid fees, please have your stickers on your port bow and port trailer tongue ASAP! Happy sailing!

Racing |
The racing program is in the midst of preparing for the Mayor’s Cup Regatta on May 31st and June 1st. Will have results to share with you in the next telltales. The Wednesday and Sunday series races are well underway, but we have a very bad result of having the bad weather happen on Wednesdays and Sundays...resulting in a high rate of race cancellations. Hoping that this coincidence can’t last forever and we will soon be up to speed again with racing. The weather has been cool and otherwise conducive to good turnouts on the days we are racing. Two major investments and projects remain for the racing program this season. They involve placing a permanent shallow water marker at the entrance to the Club inlet and the placing of a permanent cover on the Safety Boat in its new location. We have members working with us on these projects and appreciate their help. See You on the water!

![]()
Youth Sailor Junior Sailing Camp begins on June 9th and runs through July 3rd. Our Junior Sailing Camp is being led by Mary Cudworth this year. Most of last year’s staff will return again this year. Welcome back, Mary, Kate, Drew, and Julia. We have two new counselors. Welcome to Carson and Sofi. We would appreciate our members looking out for these little ones on the water from 8:30-4:00 weekdays. There are still a few openings for camp each week. If you know any children who would like to join us, but have not yet registered, please have them contact Olivia DeGrella at sailingbyolivia@gmail.com. Junior Sailors have lots and lots of gratitude! We are so very thankful for Dennis Robertson, John Zinn, Steve Kohen, Hanna Mason, and Jeff Hanson for building the new dock in our area. The dock is beautiful! Thank you so much to all of you. We are also very thankful for the new sand on the beach near the Junior Area. Erich Rose, thank you for our new sandy beach area. And, Amy Miller has been so helpful. Our program has grown this year and Amy has been so very generous with her time to help us to get funds to the right places. Thank you Amy!
Youth Sailor Finally, the last acknowledgment goes to Olivia DeGrella. She moved into a new role this year. She has developed the sailing curriculum for camp and the Junior clinics, staffed the camp and clinics, and worked hard to recruit our new Junior Racing Team Members. She has prepared all the equipment for the first regatta and is pulling boats to make it all possible. Olivia, thank you for the vision and all your hard work to make camp, clinics, and racing team possible. We could not be doing any of this without you.

Meet the Director of Education |
![]() I continued racing in the ILYA (Inland Lake Yachting Association) until I aged out, but I’m still very involved in the racing scene. I coach the junior race team, help organize events, and still race whenever I can. I own a 26’ Laguna that I love sailing and working on. A couple of years ago, I took a Catalina 21 down to the Florida Keys. That trip made me fall in love with coastal sailing. Beyond the water, I hold a USCG Captain’s License and I’m a certified EMT. I used to volunteer with the Cataract Fire Department and trained in rope rescue. These days, I teach tactical medicine and am a certified CPR instructor. I also hold a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification and have been teaching sailing for eight years now. I was educated through the Montessori school system, which really shaped how I view learning. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to discover the joy of sailing. The best learning doesn’t always come from a book...it happens when we’re out experiencing the world. I believe in the value of each individual and their unique potential to find confidence, excitement, and joy through the sport of sailing.
