Ahoy!

This will be my last Telltales article as Commodore.   It's been a pleasure serving our Club this year!   This also completes 6 years of my serving on the ECSC Board.   I look forward to a few years of "retirement."   :)

Something new I tested this year:   a new way to run a "Garden Committee."   I think it worked out well.   About 8 of us were on an email thread and simply communicated when we planted and/or watered the flowers.   The head of the committee records them as work credits.   I'm going to propose we formalize this "Landscape & Garden Committee" at next week's board meeting.   Hopefully this keeps our Club's flower beds and planters looking good for years to come.

Club Stats
Memberships 269
Members Waiting a Slip 2
Wet Slips 174 plus 2 temp
Water Level 788.74 (790 Normal)
Lake Acreage 1,360 Total (850 south end)
Thank you Committee Chairs!!   Seriously, they do all the work.   Please take a second to acknowledge who led each committee this year.   They did a wonderful job.

ECSC Leadership Team

Another thing I noticed this year, it appears Rick's Boatyard is wanting to have a closer relationship with ECSC.   Our Membership Chair, Jesse, did a great job "partnering" with Rick's for their 30th Birthday Celebration (and boat parade).   I believe they want to do more events and initiatives with ECSC.

One thing I'd love to see us partner on:   a concert over the water.   I'd imagine a band could play in their grassy area (near their fountain) playing out towards their dock, and ECSC boats could anchor and watch the show.   That would be so fun. And finally, I'd like to wish Vickie Greenough the best of luck with her Commodoriship in 2025.   She's run the Social committee for longer than I can remember and will now be stepping into the Commodore position at the Final Bash.   I was also happy to hear most Committee Chairs will be returning in 2025.

Thank you for a great year as Commodore.

Facilities Manager

First of all, the fall work party will be on Saturday, November 9th.   We will start at about 10am and hopefully finish noonish.   Leaves, trash, cut a couple small trees, move some rocks, etc.

The high-pressure sprayer will be shut down sometime after that, usually within a week or two of the Final Bash.   It all depends on the temperature.   If it gets below freezing a couple of nights in a row, the system has to be disconnected.

Also, the wooden-ship play set behind the main shelter has been sealed and it should be good for a couple more years.   Thank you Meredith.

Next, or actually first, the Club’s bathroom floors will be getting a thorough cleaning and sealing.   Both will be closed on Sunday afternoon, October 20th, and hopefully re-opened Wednesday evening the 23rd.   The toilets will be removed on Sunday for a better cleaning/coating, and then replaced on Wednesday evening followed by a grand re-opening.

If we could get a couple more strong folks to help remove/re-install the toilets it would be a great help.   Let me know.

The color chips are a few of gray and a medium blue with the overall color called Neptune.   It’s kinda’ like an epoxy but is more durable and easier to apply.   Plus there will be an extra layer of non-slip stuff.

And, it’s well within the Facilities budget!

Please remember these end-of-season dates and policies:

Do not park your boats in the car parking lot at the bottom of the hill until after the Hornback regatta and Chili Cook-off.

Remove your trailer from the upper trailer lot by October 15th.   You don't need to pull your boat out yet, but that lot needs to be empty by that date.

Please park as tight as you can to the boat next to you.   There are white lines painted to define the dryslips spacing and boats need to be between the lines to be in the correct spot.   The Club allows for 10-feet widths for parking and wet slips.   I know we have boats over 10' and that is fine...we'll make room.   We can't have big gaps between boats and still get everyone on the hard.   So, get a spotter and keep it tight.

And, please consider bringing your boat or maybe one of your boats home over the winter to save you money and the Club space.

Hello Fellow Sailors!

Thank you to our outstanding crew who helped with Lobsterfest this year!   They did a tremendous job!!   We apologize for the shortage and appreciate everyone’s understanding.   We’re continually looking at ways to improve our system.

We have two events left for this season!

This month, we have our Hornback Chili Cookoff, where you can bring your favorite chili to enter into a cookoff contest.   We’ve had some delicious, amazing, and creative chili dishes that always delight.   If you don’t bring a chili to enter into the cookoff, please bring a side dish or dessert to share.   We will have the remaining hamburgers and hot dogs to cook and drinks, as well.   This event will be at 6pm on October 5th.

More details will come later this month regarding RSVP and payment for the Final Bash, hosted by Past Commodore, Rick Graef.   It will be held at the Colts Training Facility again this year on November 2nd, with cocktails to start at 5:30pm.   To cut down on costs, we will be moving back to 2 drink tickets with each dinner purchase.   We will have dinner, voting, awards, the announcement of our new board, dancing, and many more activities.   So, this is a not-to-be-missed event!

As a friendly reminder, per our General Rules, our four-legged friends should not be present during events in the pavilion.

For those interested in reserving any of the shelters located on the Club grounds for an event, you can find the reservation request form on our website at http://ecsail.org/reserve.   Please complete and submit for Commodore and social approval.   Depending on the number of guests, deposits and fees may apply.   It is limited to 100 guests due to parking limitations.

If you have any questions, please always feel free to reach out!

Dear Friends,

As the days grow shorter, it's time to begin our winter preparations and finalize our boat winterization checklist.

As we get ready for the colder months, membership renewal is also on our agenda.   Please ensure that your watercraft displays a current 2024 sticker on both the Port Bow and Port Trailer by December 1st.   Failure to do so could result in additional fees.   If you need a new sticker, please feel free to reach out to us at membership@ecsail.org, and I’ll be happy to assist you.

I apologize for an oversight this week...I accidentally deleted the link to the 2024 directory.   You can access it using the following link: 2024 Directory.   I appreciate your understanding and recommend saving this file for future reference.

Please take a moment to review the important items below and submit any relevant updates, such as changes in address, new boats, or sold boats:

Register a New Boat:   New Boat Registration
Report the Sale of a Boat:   Sale Reporting
Report Change of Address:   Address Change
Report Change of Phone or New Email:   Contact Information Update

Lastly, I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the boat parade at Rick's last month.   A special thanks to Tena Albrecht for providing gift certificates to participants, and congratulations to the Goff’s for winning “Best Dressed Sailboat” and earning a bottle of Sailor Jerry!

Thank you for your attention, and let’s make this winter preparation smooth and enjoyable.

Racing
John Kohne
Nancy Goff

It has been a busy September in ECSC racing.   We have had the Indy 200, the RC Dragon Force Regatta, the Governor’s Cup, and this week will be a large intercollegiate regatta sponsored by our fellow racers from Purdue University.

We offer our congratulations to Larry Conrad and Jordan Kane for winning the Indy 200.   Bob Hickok for his victory at the RC Regatta.   Praise to Chuck and Nancy Goff for their win at the Governor’s Cup.   Special thanks to all the volunteers who made all these events possible and so enjoyable.

Our last big sailing event will be the Hornback Regatta on Saturday October 5th.   The NOR and SI are posted on the ECSC Racing Page.   This is a large pursuit-race event, and we hope that you will come out and join us for the final regatta and enjoy the good winds that seem to always bless this event.

The Series racing awards and the racing recognition awards will be given out during the evening program at the Final Bash on November 2nd.   We hope that you can join us there for a last celebration of 2024 racing with all your fellow racers and members.

Winter is coming!!

The water level is dropping!

Be sure to keep an eye out for that dreaded level that's too late to get your boat onto your trailer!

Also, maybe we can nominate EJ for keeping the Landscape & Garden Committee going!!
