It's officially my favorite time of the year! I hope everyone is enjoying the crisp air, changing colors, and evening bon fires. Here are some updates with what's going on at the Club. After months of back and forth, we finally have a signed Facility-Use Agreement with Purdue University so that the Purdue Sailing Club can continue to operate out of our facility. ECSC is well protected when it comes to liability, and the agreement auto-renews. So, hopefully no one will have to re-visit this agreement for years to come. We brought back the maintenance fee that Purdue will pay us every year, and I'm working to find what dates the Purdue students will do their Work Party this Fall to "work off" their membership dues. Purdue is hosting their Boiler Cup Regatta on September 28 and 29. Many Big 10 universities will be coming in for the weekend to race on Eagle Creek. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please reach out to me at commodore@ecsail.org. They could always use help with race committee, safety boats, and food prep.
ECSC BOARD MEMBERS WANTED. It is time to nominate candidates who you think should serve on our Board of Directors. We will send an email explaining what it means to serve on the board and details on the time commitment (it's not much). You can send your nominations to Rich or me at commodore@ecsail.org. That's all for now! Don't forget to enjoy a hay ride or corn maze this Fall.

Just heard from John Kohne that our lake water level is going down about 1.5 feet starting on Sep 12. The Parks Dept or Water Dept does it every year. A big thanks to EJ and his flower loves...they are doing a great job keeping all the flower pots watered. Another big thanks goes out to Eileen Leonard for keeping the entrance clean. No flowers, but no weeds either. We also got the mostly-dead Cottonwood tree chopped down. While they were here, the tree company dug out 4 stumps that members and lawn mowers keep tripping over. Good job Rafaela.

We have a few slips not being used currently. If you are finished for the season, please let me know and we'll put a new member into the water. The Park is lowering the water level around September 12th, so keep an eye on your keels. Maybe we can move you to an empty slip in deeper water. Remember the trailers need to be out of the meadow by October 15th. Also, stay out of the parking lot until after the Hornback regatta. Now that the heat isn't trying to kill us anymore, I'll be putting together some work credit projects. We still need to remark all the slip numbers with new plaques. And, I want to line the dry slips and install more RR ties.

Hello Fellow Sailors! A huge Thank You to David & Ann Marie Knapp and crew for a great Labor Day Weekend Cookout! The long anticipated Lobsterfest is our next event! This is an awesome not to missed event! In October, we have our Hornback Chili Cookoff...where you can bring to favorite chili to enter into a cookoff contest. We’ve had some delicious, amazing, and creative chili creations that always delight. If you don’t bring a chili to enter into the cookoff, please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We will have the remaining hamburgers and hot dogs to cook...and drinks, as well.

Membership |
We're excited to welcome a new member to our sailing community bringing us to 269 members! Our newest addition comes with a J22 boat and is eager to race in our J22 one design fleet. It's always great to see fresh faces and new competition on the water, and we're looking forward to seeing this boat in action. As we sail through the 2024 season, we'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers. Your dedication and hard work have made this year one of the best yet, and we couldn't have done it without you. A special shoutout goes to our custodial-engineer, Jenipher Gee, for her tireless efforts in keeping our facilities in top shape. Jenipher, your commitment does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for all you do. Finally, don’t forget about the upcoming 30th Anniversary Celebration at Rick’s! If you’re interested in participating in the boat parade, please email membership@ecsail.org ASAP to confirm your spot. The event kicks off from our docks at 6:15pm on Thursday, September 5th, with our own lineup out of the cove. It’s going to be a memorable evening, and we hope to see you there! Please note, this is not an official ECSC event, but I am excited to coordinate!

Racing |
All, The hot and less windy month of August is passing us by leaving a trail of cancelled races because of the lack of wind. Despite this fact, we were still able to get off a successful Single-Handed Regatta that was actually diminished somewhat by winds that were too strong! Great thanks to the effort of volunteers and Wendy and Jerry Brickley for their efforts in putting together an enjoyable race and program.
"Winners" of the Build Your Own Boat Also, the Ladies Regatta also came off successfully with another great time on the water and fun for both the racers and the volunteers. Special thanks to Carrissa Bartek, Sarah Hanson, and Carly Traub for their work in making this event so enjoyable. Coming up in September are several important events. The Indy 200 is this coming weekend on Saturday September 7th. The RC Dragon Force Regatta is Saturday September 14th. The Governor’s Cup and Lobsterfest is Saturday and Sunday September 21st and 22nd. The information needed to participate in the regattas is available on the Racing Page of the ECSC Racing Webpage. Remember, if you intend to have dinner at Lobsterfest, one needs to have their reservation and order in by September 13th. Shirts of the Gov Cup need to be ordered online by September 8th.

Please don't let the water-level thing get you. Keep an eye out and know not only the depth of your slip, but also the depth of any waterway you need to get to the ramp. There's a measuring stick at the Race Shed. A special thanks for our Membership Chair Jesse who helped organize our inclusion in the Boat Parade for celebrating the 30 years of Rick's Boatyard on our reservoir. It really was a nice sight watching the 8 sailboats coming out of our cove (donned with flags) joining in with the pontoon parade. Double rainbow over our Club??
